Upcoming Productions

Twist is due to be performed at the beginning of November 2025.

The next thing in store for our members is ‘Twist’! This is NOT an Open Door Production but an Autumn production from Shetland County Drama, which is a drama group that is composed of all drama groups from around Shetland. Any person involved in any drama group is welcome to take part, even if you’re not a member of any drama group, this production is open to all, regardless of experience.

This year they will be doing ‘Twist’, which is a modern adaption of Charles Dickens classic tale ‘Oliver Twist’. Written and directed by John Haswell, the production is set in the present day but remains true to the story, and many of the themes and characters of the original.

Oliver, Fagin, Nancy, Bill Sykes, Dodger will all be there, but ‘Twist’ is no easy-going musical. Rather, it goes right back to the original text and brings it bang up to date.

PAST PRODUCTIONS

We have numerous productions spanning back decades so here are a few of our more recent productions.

VARIETY SHOW

Our most recent project was something a bit different!

We did a variety show in conjunction with the Summer Carnival in June 2025.

Our Open Door members displayed their variety of talents at the Masonic Hall. We had singing, comedy and, yes of course, there was acting. There was even an aerial hoop involved at one point!

In December 2024, we did our pantomime, a 70’s disco version of Babes in the Wood.

When Pip & Penny inherit performance venue ‘The Wood’, their Uncle Hardknutt will do anything to take it of their hands.

With help from bands, Robin Hood & his Merrymen and Marion & the Marionettes, they foil Uncle Hardknutts plans. Although the real hero is Pip & Penny’s rent-a-fairy godmother, who shows up to save the day.

It was filled with sickenly bright clashing colours, many a bopping beat and laughs for days.

Babes in the Wood

The dynamic duo, Fidget Spinner and his girlfriend, Flick.

Dame, Molly Coddles, with one of our Babes, Penny.

Bungle doing some dastardly deed!

Uncle Hardknutt with his less than intelligent henchmen, Botch, Bungle & Bodger.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

For the Shetland County Drama Festival 2024 we performed a half hour version of Shakespeares ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’.

Still filled with all the fairy antics of Puck & Oberon, along side Bottoms starring role in the play within a play.

We had a good success with this show and came away the Best Stage Production award.

Demetrius & Lysander try to split up a quarrel between Hermia & Helena, while Puck & Oberon enjoy the carnage!

Puck & Oberon revel in their wicked schemes.

Peter Quince & Bottom discuss grand ideas for their play for Theseus.

Jack and the Beanstalk

Cast & crew of Jack & the Beanstalk, December 2022.

We brought our pantomime ‘Jack & the Beanstalk’ to the Garrison Theatre stage in December 2022.

Jack sells his beloved cow Pat for some magic beans, which inevitably grow into a massive beanstalk. During his adventures at the top of the beanstalk he discovers an old family secret, the horrible giant that lives up there is actually….. his father!

Dame, Ma Rayburn, with local idiot John Knox.

Is it even a pantomime if there aren’t any dancing rats?

Jack is saved by his life long bestie, Jill the Cat.

Ma Rayburn with her son, Simon & their cow Pat.

Sleeping Beauty took to the stage in December 2019.

When the evil Belladonna casts a sleeping spell over the whole royal kingdom due to not receiving an invite to Princess’s party, Prince Hector must come to the rescue with the help of the Tavish and the giant Haggis, Hamish.
